CLOSE RANGE PISTOL DEFENSIVE TACTICS - 4/14/2018

A significant percentage of aggravated assaults are ultimately perpetrated inside a range of 5 yards. They frequently involve weapons of some sort, and are often carried out by multiple individuals.

It is critical that our training reflect these difficult realities. If you carry a firearm for defensive purposes or are considering it, this course is for you.

Deeply understanding when, where, and how to use firearms defensively is extremely important, but unfortunately the overwhelming majority of state-mandated instruction does not adequately address it.

Validating our skills and knowledge under pressure is something we would prefer to do from the safety of a formal training environment, rather than in the moment, unexpectedly, against a real motivated attacker. Proper training can help us better understand the context in which force is appropriate.

Topics covered include conflict avoidance and managing an unknown contact, the legalities of force including use of weapons, proper timing of weapon access, using and defending against strikes, entangled fighting and accessing defensive tools when entangled.

This hands on course will provide students with a skill set that has been pressure tested through force on force drills that they can have confidence in.

Recommended Gear & Items to bring to class:

  • Training CCW gun (drone/dummy gun) and holster that mimics your CCW set up. (We will have some training guns on site for those who don’t have their own.)
  • Trainer knives (if you have them)
  • Eye protection
  • Mouthguard
  • Protective cup
  • Comfortable clothes to train in that are similar to your daily attire
  • Water, sports drinks, snacks

There will be a 1 hr lunch break. There are several options nearby or students can pack a lunch.

I love how you said that self-defense training should reflect the typical circumstances that you'd need to defend yourself in. While having regular point-and-shoot training is good, you'll probably be a lot safer if you're prepared for an attack. That way you can make sure that you can have peace of mind.
