why train Jiu-Jitsu?
Leverage Over Strength
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that uses leverage, technique, and strategy to control and neutralize larger, stronger opponents. It’s designed for real-world situations, teaching you how to stay on your feet, escape danger, or defend yourself effectively if a confrontation goes to the ground. Build Strength, Confidence & Community BJJ is both physically and mentally demanding, pushing you to new levels of fitness, endurance, and problem-solving. Training fosters trust, camaraderie, and personal growth in a welcoming community where teammates help each other improve. For Veterans Many of us at ICBJJ are Veterans—we understand the challenges of transitioning from active duty. Here, you'll find a new team and family that offers support, purpose, and belonging. We proudly offer a Veteran’s Discount and partner with the We Defy Foundation. For Law Enforcement Officers Most officers engage in physical altercations far more often than they draw their firearm, yet training in defensive tactics is often inadequate. At ICBJJ, we’ve supported LEOs for 14 years with a Law Enforcement Scholarship Program, offering two years of free training to 10 officers. Train for Readiness Being fit and capable of protecting yourself and your loved ones is essential. At ICBJJ, we don’t just teach Jiu-Jitsu—we also offer modern self-defense and firearms safety to enhance your overall preparedness. |
What Will My First Women's Class Look LIKe?
Your first class will be in our Women’s Only program, designed to be welcoming, supportive, and beginner-friendly. Before class, a coach will give you a quick tour and orientation to help you feel comfortable.
Then, we get moving! Class starts with partner-based warm-up games that introduce key Jiu-Jitsu concepts in a fun, engaging way. Next, the coach will guide you through game-based jiu-jitsu scenarios focused on self-defense and foundational techniques. If you're feeling ready, you’ll have the option to try live sparring in a safe, controlled setting. By the end, you’ll have taken the first step in building confidence, strength, and real self-defense skills—and this is just the beginning! |
