Youth Classes at ICBJJ
Kids 8-11 & Teens 12-16
WHY HAVE YOUR KIDS TRAIN BJJ & MMA?
One of the most technically useful combat sports in self defense, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is designed to give a smaller person a chance against a larger and stronger opponent through the use of leverage and pivot points. When combined with a striking skill set such as Muay Thai kickboxing, the practitioner becomes a well rounded mixed martial artist capable of being able to physically defend themselves. Iowa City BJJ has designed a Youth Jiu Jitsu and MMA curriculum that covers all aspects of the sport and self-defense to meet your child at whatever level they’re at. Alongside our cutting edge coaching methods designed to quickly develop skill, our coaches focus on F.R.E.D. in our Youth programs – focus, respect, energy, and discipline. Our academy makes sure to weave the concepts of F.R.E.D. into all of our daily classes, from Mat Chats to sparing, and even our games. With ICBJJ, Kids & Teens will learn the skills to responsibly defend themselves on the ground and on their feet in a positive, playful setting with some of the top instructors in the Midwest. Your kids will build trust with their training partners and experience community in a completely unique way, making life-long friends along the way that help drive them to improve and grow strong. |
What Will My Child's First Class Look Like?
You just signed your child or teen up for free trial classes! One of our Program Managers will reach out to you to help you find the best time to schedule your child's first class. They’ll also reach out the day before to confirm and send you a digital waiver.
On the very first day of class, you’ll arrive a little early. Martial arts can feel intimidating to a first-timer, so we want to make sure to work in some extra time to get to know them and make them feel comfortable. We’ll give them a tour of the facility and introduce them to their coaches and other students. Classes start with games or challenges that help promote important Jiu-Jitsu or MMA concepts and get the kids warmed up. Then the coaches will explain how kids will work with their partners in more challenging games to learn specific concepts and maneuvers. Kids will work with their partners through these challenging games, and at the end of class they get to live train in wrestling rounds with everybody. |
